What is PD3.1?
PD3.1 was firstly published by USB-IF in May 2021, which was updated based on USB PD3.0
The USB PD3.1 fast charging specification divides ouput power into two ranges: standard power range (SPR) and extended power range (EPR). The standard power range is the mainstream USB PD3.0 PPS fast charging standard on the market, and the maximum charging power remains unchanged at 100W; the newly added 28V, 36V, and 48V voltages belong to the extended power range, and the maximum output current corresponding to the three pairs of voltages is 5A, and the maximum output power can reach 240W.

A USB-C charger may keep disconnecting because of a damaged cable, poor USB-C connector contact, failed PD negotiation, overcurrent protection, overheating, unstable output, device compatibility or excessive cable resistance. A charger factory should reproduce the problem, test different cables and devices, monitor PD negotiation, check thermal and electrical performance, and then identify the root cause before mass production.
